Watch Dogs Was “Headed For Disaster” Before Delay

Game Revolution:
On the latest episode of the Bonus Round, the analyst said of Ubisoft’s decision to delay the game:

I admire them. Their stock got hammered. The management got criticized. And that franchise matters; it sounds really good. And if it doesn’t work, it’s a big waste of time and waste of money. So I’m hopeful that that six month delay makes that game great. But I think that was headed for disaster.

The Gaming Gene

growing-up-is-never-easyI’m not sure if it’s just part of my overzealous attempt to reevaluate life with all the “grown up” changes but, a lot of games in the last two years have not really interested me. I’ve been telling myself for a while now that it’s just because I’m so busy, I don’t have time to play as much as I used to. I constantly go back and forth in my head making up reasons as to why something that was as normal as breathing to me slowly became something that I didn’t acknowledge unless I felt like I sounded like a fraud to others.

My profession makes it all that much worse. People I know tend to come across me on the internet every now and then and start to ask questions. As douche-ish as it is to say, “Oh yeah, I’m a video game journalist on my down time…” I feel like it’s becoming a lie.

I’ve been neglected gaming quite a bit and I honestly don’t keep up with a lot the buzz that goes around in the industry. As of late, it just doesn’t interest me. One would assume that with new consoles and the VGAs (Oh Boy!) that I would have dove head first into all the next-gen madness and pushed everything else aside for it.

Microsoft Dropping Xbox One Price?

ps4-500-poll

It seems like Microsoft is still pretty adamant on getting more consumers on board with the Xbox One. Along with all the rumors (which Microsoft vaguely discredited) that Microsoft would be hosting a “relaunch” event of sorts for the console at Gamescom, more have come about regarding changes to the setup of the Xbox One.

The previous online and sharing restrictions have caused some features to be revoked from launch of the system. This coupled with the lack of interest from the community has caused some interesting comments to surface.

Colin Sebastian, an analyst at financial firm Robert W. Baird & Co., claims that Microsoft is working diligently to lower the price of the Xbox One. Sebastian stated that Microsoft is “working with channel partners to lessen the gap” according to GamesIndustry International.

This along with small tidbits released on Twitter, one would assume the price will be dropping to match PS4′s  more wallet friendly price tag. Despite that however, many consumers still find it hard to get on board with the console at launch. With memories of the catastrophe that was the Xbox 360′s launch filed with customer service issues and RROD, it’s difficult for many to see past that, me included.

So what do you guys think of the possibly price change? Still pinning for PS4 or will you give Xbox One a chance now?

I am an old geezer. As someone who is his late 20’s, in the ever evolving game industry, I’ve seen convoluted mazes become open worlds, local multiplayer expand into online tournaments, and a lowly space marine transformed into the iconic Master Chief.  When I examine gaming forums and read posts from “entitled gamers” who complain about mechanics in games; I’m very close to creating an account and writing in all caps: “In my day we didn’t have the luxury of regenerative health and destructible cover; we just circle strafed to the nearest health pack. And we liked it, damnit!” I’ve seen this industry, which I have been a patron of for the last 23 years, transform from a niche hobby, enjoyed mostly by children, to a multimillion dollar industry that attracts everyone.

Ah…

Life has a weird way of working itself out, huh?

I have written a post like this in a long time. You know, those self-aware “let’s talk about life and growing up” post? I just feel the need to let you know that life has taught me a few more things…or has forced me to accept some things. This one is something that actually took me quite a while to grasp and understand. It was something that no one had ever told me and, for good reason. It’s something that I feel I need to share though.

I learned that…everyone is a liar.
